General
Where do your dogs come from?
Our dogs are rescued from reserves mainly across the province of Saskatchewan, although we have also rescued from neighbouring provinces as well. The dogs we rescue are confirmed strays (having no owner).
Why do you choose to focus on reserve strays?
We choose to focus on reserve strays for of a number of reasons; firstly, the health and safety risk they present can be dangerous to community members. As stray numbers grow, the dogs begin to form packs and claim territory - with strength in numbers, attacks can become more frequent, as the dogs are fighting for survival. Having numerous in-tact and unvaccinated dogs running around contributes to the spreading of diseases and parasites that can be passed along to humans. We want members to feel safe in their own communities, and to not be wary of their children playing outside! Second, because of the large number of unfixed dogs running around, they multiply exponentially. The amount of strays can very quickly get out of hand, leading to sometimes hundreds of stray dogs in one community. These dogs are often severely malnourished, injured, and sick and in need of help that we can give.
Where does your funding come from?
As a registered non-profit organization, we rely 100% on donations to help these dogs. We organize fundraisers and bottle drives, sell gift baskets, and receive monetary and supply donations. Our supplies come from both individuals as well as local businesses in Regina and surrounding areas.
Where are your dogs located? Do you have a facility where they can be viewed?
Our dogs are located in foster homes throughout the city and surrounding area. We do not have a central location to house all of our dogs in, as we focus our attention to helping them adjust in a home environment with one on one attention, care and love. We find this model to be very effective in helping the dogs settle into a family environment and we rely on our wonderful foster families to help us care for our furry friends until they are able to find their forever homes!
How do I meet a dog I am interested in?
The first step is to fill out an adoption application! Once the application is filled out and approved, a trial will take with the dog you are interested in!
How long are dogs in your care?
It depends! Our dogs must meet a number of minimal requirements before being adopted. They must:
Be a minimum of 8 weeks old
Go through a two (2) week medical quarantine
Receive an all-clear vet check up
Receive their first round of DA2PP (distemper parvo combination vaccine)
Recieve deworming medication and any other necessary medication to completely treat internal or external parasites
Be of sound behaviour
Adoption
What is your adoption process?
The first step in adopting a dog from us is to fill out the online adoption application (found in adoptable dogs tabs). After we receive the application, it will be looked over by our adoption coordinator. Once we have approved the application for adoption, we set up a 3-day ‘adoption trial’, and see how the dog adjusts to life in their new home before signing the adoption contract. The adoption contract is then signed, adoption fees paid, and a family photo taken with the newest family member!
How much are your adoption fees?
It depends on the age/status of the dog! Unfixed dogs (due to age or timing of adoption availability) have an adoption fee of $250.00 plus $100.00 spay/neuter deposit. This deposit is returned upon receiving proof of spay/neuter, which must be within 30 days of the procedure, and the dog is between 6-8 months of age. Fixed dogs have an adoption fee of $350.00. The $350.00 is expected at the time of the adoption.
Why do you charge an adoption fee?
Our adoption fee helps to cover a portion of the bills caring for our dogs. This mainly pertains to vet bills, but can also include things such as transportation, special supplies (First aid supplies, puppy formula, etc.). Our amount doesn’t fluctuate based on actual cost spent, so regardless of whether $150.00 was spent, or $1,500.00 was spent to rehabilitate the dog, the adoption fee remains the same.
Do you spay/neuter all of your dogs before adoption?
While we would love to be able to, unfortunately we can’t always make that happen. We wait until dogs reach 6 months of age to spay/neuter within our rescue. Any dogs that leave our rescue without being spayed/neutered require a $100.00 deposit to be paid and are accompanied by contractual obligation for the owner to spay or neuter in a defined timeline. Once proof of the spay or neuter is received, the deposit is returned to the owner!
Can I fill out an adoption application online?
Yes! Click on the heading ‘Adoptable Dogs’ and you will see on the page saying ‘Apply Here’.
If the dog I want is no longer available, do I have to fill out a new application for a new dog?
Nope! Once you’ve filled out an application, unless any information changes, your application is still valid for 6 months! If another dog catches your eye in that time frame, just let us know and we will begin the adoption process with that dog!
Fostering
How do I become a foster?
First, you will have to fill out the online foster application. Go to the tab ‘how to get involved’, the choice to foster will pop up, click on that and it will take you directly to the application! We will review the application, and call or text you to go over our contract, protocols, quarantine procedures, and answer any questions you may have!
I live out of town. Can I still foster?
Depending on how far out. While we would love everyone to have the opportunity to foster, it is quite difficult to arrange meet and greets and vet appointments with longer distance fosters. If you live within a 30km radius of Regina, we would love to have you on board! It is more difficult to place fosters further away from Regina but we are willing to do so depending on the circumstance.
Do I get to pick who I foster?
We take into consideration preferences such as: puppy, male, female, older, large, small, etc., however within those limits, we cannot always give choice to fosters for which dog specifically, but are always committed to partnering fosters with the dogs that are the best fit for each party!
What do you provide for foster homes?
Everything you need to help a dog transition from being a stray to their new way of life! We supply the kennel, food, bowls, leash, collar, toys, pee pads, treats, blankets, shampoo as needed.. you name it! We pay for all vet bills as well.
Do I get paid to foster?
No, fosters provide their assistance free of charge (And that’s why we love you so much!) Being a NFP Organization, we do not have the funds available to pay fosters. All work done with CC RezQs is volunteer, from the directors to the fosters!
Volunteering
What kind of volunteer opportunities do you have?
Some examples of ways you can help out include: transporting dogs to and from vet appointments, picking up donations from stores and residents, dropping off supplies to foster homes, assisting on rescue missions, helping with fundraising opportunities, and helping to clean kennels!
